Erick Vitus Komba is a Professor in Veterinary Epidemiology. At different stages he has trained in veterinary sciences, microbiology, epidemiology, Global Health and Research methods in the country and elsewhere. Before joining TALIRI in the year 2021, he served in the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Public Health of Sokoine University of Agriculture; where he was involved in teaching, research and consultancy. He has supervised more than 5 PhD, more than 15 Master and more than 20 undergraduate students’ research projects. His research interests are in the areas of Infectious disease Epidemiology and livestock production systems. Over years he has conducted research on diseases of livestock, fish, wildlife and in a few occasions diseases of humans. His competencies include the use of digital technologies in disease surveillance. Prof. Komba is a member of a community of practice on Bacterial Zoonoses and Antimicrobial resistance under the SACIDS Foundation for One Health. He is involved in several research projects that address Bacterial zoonoses and Antimicrobial Resistance using a One Health Approach, collaborating with researchers in human, environmental, aquatic and wildlife health within the country and outside. Prof. Komba has over 40 publications which include journal articles, conference proceedings and book chapters.
Prof. Komba is currently serving as the Director General of Tanzania Livestock Research Institute (TALIRI).
